Wayfinding Signage Strategy

GOOD SAMMY

Good Sammy is Western Australia’s largest for-purpose operator in the Containers for Change scheme, creating meaningful employment opportunities for people with disability through its network of recycling services.

At their busy Balcatta depot, customers can access both a cash Drive-Thru and a Drop & Go service. However, the existing signage and layout were causing confusion, traffic bottleneck, and queues spilling onto the street – creating safety hazards and operational inefficiencies.

Having delivered successful signage strategies for other recycling operators, Good Sammy engaged Go Graphics to develop a comprehensive wayfinding solution that would alleviate congestion, improve customer experience and elevate the overall visibility of the facility.

“Good Sammy trusted us to solve a real operational challenge. We worked closely with them at every step to make sure the strategy delivered exactly what they needed.”

Michael Evenson – Project Manager

Following detailed site visits and planning discussions, our team identified several opportunities to revitalise the depot. A key recommendation involved painting the exterior building fascia – a strategic decision that expanded the usable signage backdrop, refreshed the appearance of the site and allowed for clearer directional messaging.

With the newly revitalised façade, we designed and executed a suite of wayfinding signage that maximised impact without clutter. This included custom router-cut ACM signage to the building fascia, new office entry bulkhead signage, parking and instructional signs and a refurbished pylon with stronger directional messaging.

We also identified underutilised areas around the building and car park, introducing signage at new angles and sightlines to guide customers seamlessly through both the Drive-Thru and Drop & Go services. All signage was designed in alignment with the Containers for Change brand, incorporating clear, instructional messaging tailored to the flow of the site.

“The transformation wasn’t just visual – it completely changed how customers move through the site. The new wayfinding system has made the depot safer, clearer and far more efficient.”

The result is a significantly improved wayfinding system that is safer, faster and far more intuitive for customers to navigate. Traffic has been significantly alleviated, directional misunderstandings have been eliminated and the facility now presents as professional, on-brand and highly visible to passing motorists.

Good Sammy’s operations team has experienced a smoother customer flow, reduced stress during peak periods and an uplift in overall site appearance – creating a more welcoming and efficient environment for everyone.

This project demonstrates Go Graphics’ expertise in solving practical on-site challenges through strategic wayfinding design. By guiding the client through the entire process – from planning and colour recommendations to placement and execution – we helped unlock the full signage potential of the site.

By rethinking the site layout and introducing signage in the right places, we were able to turn an underperforming space into a highly functional one. Smart planning made all the difference .”
